Two useful bookmarklets
A short title for an off-topic post – off-topic, because it has nothing to do with copyright or so, but as I often use these homemade bookmarklets in the context of my research, I thought I’d share them with you. If you’re using the Technorati Anywhere! bookmarklet, this might be your thing. (if you’re new to bookmarklets, Faganfinder’s explanation might help you out)
- MoreLikeThis: this is a bookmarklet hooking in on Furl’s not well known More Like This functionality – 1. you view a webpage, say an article, and want to read more like it, 2. you click the bookmarklet, 3. you get a list of items furled by people that furled the article you were reading. The results you get might be unrelated, but very often they’re not. A demonstration: compare the content of the Copyfight article I linked to yesterday, and compare it with what comes out. Useful, I think.
- PagesLinkingTo: this one hooks in on Bloglines’ Citations function, showing you a list of pages linking to the page you were viewing. Using it with Chosaq would result in something like this. (inspired by PhotoMatt’s
Bloglines is the new Technorati
entry)
There you are.
Update: Michael Fagan, of Fagan Finder fame, writes in saying that his new URLinfo tool pretty much offers the functionality (and much, much more) this blog entry is about.
Nice. But URLinfo includes Technorati, Furl, Bloglines, and an infinite amount of other tools :-) http://www.faganfinder.com/urlinfo/ .
When you use it to create a bookmarklet, it provides an explanation that is a rewrite of my original one which you’ve linked to.

Wow, Michael. Thanks for that. I saw the new URLinfo beta a few weeks ago (found it through Furl I think) and tested it quickly. Didn’t notice the Bloglines + Furl integration though. Impressive, my bookmarklets look like peanuts…

Furl’s related pages wasn’t in when URLinfo first opened http://www.faganfinder.com/urlinfo/changes/ .
Glad you like :-)
