Tunecore’s disruptive potential
A couple of days ago, I added a link to Tunecore in the sidebar’s “News Selection”. From their site:
TuneCore is a music delivery and distribution service that gets music you created (even cover versions) up for sale on iTunes and Rhapsody without asking for your rights or taking any money from the sale or use of your music.
Although it remains to be seen if Tunecore’s model is sustainable, the service has a great potential to become a disruptive factor in the online music market, as it allows any indie band to start selling its own songs online and thus rout around the music industry’s big players. (Sony, anybody?)
Tunecore also allows you to sell your music through the Japanese iTunes store, but so far, this feature hasn’t received a lot of attention in the Japanese blogosphere. To be continued.
